Steuerparadiese: EU setzt drei weitere Länder auf Liste der Steueroasen

Finanzministern der EU-Mitgliedstaaten haben sich geeinigt.SeychellenBelize and Antigua and Barbuda have been added to the blacklist of tax havens, along with three other countries. The list now includes a total of 16 countries and territories that are deemed uncooperative by the European Union. The EU has identified „deficiencies in the exchange of tax information“ in these three states.

At the same time, Costa Rica, the Marshall Islands, and the British Virgin Islands are no longer subject to heightened scrutiny. They have been removed from the „EU list of non-cooperative countries and territories.“

Criticism of tax avoidance within the EU.

Oxfam, one of the largest international associations of charitable organizations, criticized the list of tax havens as „ineffective“. In addition to island nations, the EU should combat tax avoidance within its own borders and include larger countries on the list – such as EU members Luxembourg and Malta. As an Oxfam activist stated, the EU cannot afford to turn a blind eye to tax havens within its own ranks.
