What actions should be taken if the number of cases continues to increase and Corona returns?
What is the current trend of case numbers in Germany?
DThe number of Covid-19 cases is slightly increasing again after reaching a low level in the summer. The 7-day incidence rate has been rising since the beginning of July. Currently, it stands at 7, meaning that seven new Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants have been reported to the Robert Koch Institute in the past week.
For comparison: In late summer 2022, the 7-day incidence rate was around 250. However, since there is no longer a mandatory testing requirement in Germany, it is possible that the current number of unreported cases is higher. Christian Karagiannidis, a specialist in pulmonology and intensive care medicine in Cologne, says that he now pays less attention to the incidence rates because COVID-19 has become just one of many respiratory diseases.
