Both associations criticize that they have too little speaking rights and influence on the agenda at the upcoming Monday meeting. It was also not possible to participate in the planned aid package for the industry with the Chancellor’s Office.

Finanzierungsschwierigkeiten seit dem Zinsanstieg

The industry is experiencing financing difficulties due to the significant increase in interest rates. Building permits have declined by over 27 percent in the first half of 2023. Construction prices have increased by nearly nine percent in the second quarter compared to the previous year. A relief package for the industry is expected to be put together by the end of the month. Experts anticipate that this could be announced on Monday.

The cabinet recently decided to promote the sluggish construction of housing with better depreciation options. The so-called Growth Opportunities Act, in which these are anchored, is controversial and is likely to end up in the mediation committee of the Bundestag and Bundesrat. Further measures could include reducing regulatory and bureaucratic requirements for construction.
