Theatralisches Entzücken

Navin is using a power drill to lift a concrete ceiling, sweating profusely. It is nine o’clock in the morning and already scorching hot. Near the construction site, Navin’s cousin Alissa, also known as Issa, is grooming the oldest mare in the paddock. Antje is the mother of the Countess and the grandmother of Apfelschnitz. The colt, with its clumsy and childish movements, roams aimlessly and restlessly around the lead mare. Soon, he will become famous beyond the country’s borders under the grandiose name Othello-Tornado. However, in the scorching present, he appears merely amusingly crazy to the world. Snorting and jumping around his own shadow like a billy goat, his excitement lacks no theatrics. Issa finds it entertaining in a decorative manner. Navin recognizes a twin-like similarity in her behavior. Issa’s mother Veronika, the queen of the seven stone breakers‘ daughters, presents herself in the same theatrical and controlled manner.

Triste Tante

Issa is also making her observations. Navin is wearing nothing but overalls. He could appear in a rugged cigarette commercial. Issa knows that Navin idolizes their shared grandfather. The absent patriarch Anton Steinbrecher serves as an idol and a contrast to Navin’s eccentric mother, Doris. Currently, Issa’s gloomiest aunt is running a bizarre exercise operation. The slope-free surface of the riding arena is being used by the third youngest sister in the seven-sister bouquet for an experiment. She offers summer yoga for the second half of life. The rural-feminine clientele grumbles due to their heaviness. Since the founding of the Federal Republic, no one has thought of doing gymnastics. Why bother?

West Germany has been swept up by the fitness craze.

Navin enjoys the privileges of being a grandson living in his grandparents‘ house. Doris endures her humiliation as a fair punishment. Those who refuse to listen must experience the consequences. She could have had it as easy as her sisters who married well. No poor man dared to approach her suitors.

If someone has nothing, they tend to stay alone or with people like themselves.
