The first industry is discussing the four-day workweek with full pay: The IG Metall is entering the upcoming collective bargaining round of the northwestern German steel industry not only with the demand for an 8.5 percent wage increase but also aims to reduce the weekly working hours to 32 while maintaining full salary compensation.
Die Laufzeit solle rund zwölf Monate betragen, teilte die Gewerkschaft nach einer Sitzung der Tarifkommission in Duisburg mit. »Diese Arbeitszeitverkürzung wäre damit der Einstieg in die Vier-Tage-Woche, die dadurch in vielen Bereichen möglich wird«, sagte der Bezirksleiter der IG Metall NRW und Verhandlungsführer, Knut Giesler. Die Arbeitgeber lehnten die Forderungen umgehend ab.
The peace obligation for the approximately 68,000 employees ends on November 30th. Together with the demanded increase in compensation of 8.5 percent, this would result in a total volume of 17.1 percent. This would finally overwhelm the performance capability of the German steel industry and jeopardize it existentially.
In die letzte Runde war die IG Metall mit der Forderung nach einer Tariferhöhung von 8,2 Prozent gezogen, die Einigung lag bei 6,5 Prozent. Zu der Branche gehören Stahlkocher von Thyssenkrupp, Salzgitter und ArcelorMittal.
