Scholz rejects further economic stimulus programs due to inflation and increased energy prices.

Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz (SPD) hat sich gegen weitere Konjunkturprogramme in Deutschland ausgesprochen. »Schuldenmachen ohne Ende löst unsere Probleme nicht, schafft aber neue«, sagte Scholz der »Welt am Sonntag« . Es gehe darum, »die Wachstumsdynamik unseres Landes zu entfalten«. Zugleich bekräftigte der Kanzler seine Skepsis hinsichtlich eines Industriestrompreises.
Despite the sluggish economy, Scholz does not see Germany in a recession. However, he admitted that it is „undeniable that we have a growth weakness.“ The main cause for this is the weakening of export markets, especially China.

Scholz once again warned about the potential negative consequences of a subsidized industrial electricity price, as advocated by the Greens and parts of the SPD. He emphasized that it should not result in a slowdown in the expansion of wind and solar energy. Additionally, he questioned the justification of subsidizing companies that make huge profits with taxpayer money, leading to increased national debt for Germany.
The Chancellor advocated for his government’s Growth Opportunities Act in the interview. This will provide a boost to the economy. The law aims to stimulate the sluggish economy by offering tax relief to companies, totaling over seven billion euros per year, particularly through an investment bonus for ecological transformation.
Given the economic problems, the Chancellor once again called for a „national effort“. According to him, he also wants to reach out to the Union. In order to „move forward in our country“, „all levels of government and responsible individuals“ are needed, said Scholz. „After all, we have all together created these entrenched structures in the past decades.“

Scholz emphasized that a constructive opposition can contribute well with their suggestions in this endeavor. He is „ready“ to carefully consider „any specific proposal“. Ultimately, it is „not about party political profiling, but about the future of our country“.
Hessens Ministerpräsident Boris Rhein (CDU) will nach eigenen Worten den von Scholz angebotenen Deutschlandpakt ablehnen, falls zentrale Fragen der Migration nicht aufgenommen werden. Rhein sagte der »Rheinischen Post« : »Ich bin nur dann bereit, einen Pakt für Deutschland zu schließen, wenn die Steuerung und Begrenzung der Migration aufgenommen wird.«
Der hessische Regierungschef verlangte im Einzelnen »lageangepasste Grenzkontrollen an den Binnengrenzen«, eine »Rückführungsoffensive«, eine Ausweitung der Liste sicherer Herkunftsländer sowie eine stärkere Beteiligung des Bundes an der Finanzierung der Flüchtlingskosten.
