Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, and JC Chasez were welcomed with applause and cheers on the stage of the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. They were the surprise presenters of the trophy in the „Pop Song“ category at the MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday evening. This happened 23 years after they themselves won in this category with „Bye Bye Bye“ as *NSYNC.

At the beginning of her acceptance speech, Taylor Swift raised the questions that are likely on the minds of many former fans of the boy band: „Are you doing something? What happens next? You must be planning something. And I need to know what it is.“
For weeks now, there has been talk of a possible contribution from *NSYNC on the soundtrack for the third installment of the „Trolls“ animated film series. The film, produced by DreamWorks Animation, is titled „Trolls Band Together“ (the German distribution title is „Trolls – gemeinsam stark“). Justin Timberlake voices the character Branch in the original films, with Mark Forster providing the German dubbing.

However, according to the magazine „Billboard,“ the current strike by screenwriters and actors may have prevented this performance: According to union rules, stars are currently not allowed to promote films produced by studios – singing the soundtrack song on live television would certainly have been considered promotion for „Trolls Band Together.“
