Houssem Jbebli from the National Guard stated in a press conference that the operation, allegedly ordered by President Kis Saied, involved the use of airplanes and anti-terrorism units. The operation targeted smugglers who were exploiting the fear of frustrated individuals.

helfen. Doch allein an den vergangenen beiden Tagen kamen nach
Angaben der örtlichen Behörden auf Lampedusa rund 7.000 Migranten
aus Nordafrika an.
