These are three simple considerations that, to my knowledge, are not particularly controversial. However, taking them seriously amounts to a moral revolution – a revolution that has far-reaching consequences for how activists, researchers, politicians, and indeed all of us should think and act. These considerations provide the reasons for an ethical position that I refer to as long-termism. This refers to the belief that as a society, we should make much more effort to protect the interests of future generations than we currently do.
