Dass Frankreichs Staatspräsident einen ausländischen Oppositionsführer empfängt, ist eher ungewöhnlich. Nächste
Woche wird sich Emmanuel Macron aber mit dem britischen Labour-Chef Keir Starmer treffen – der dann auch noch von Leuten aus seinem Schattenkabinett begleitet wird. Ungewöhnlich ist auch, dass Starmer einen Tag vor dem Staatsbesuch des britischen Königs bei Macron sein wird.
What Starmer is expressing is that he is already positioning himself as the next British Prime Minister. Last year he met with Chancellor Scholz, he meets important politicians from the EU, and he is on a state visit to Canada this weekend. In addition, he is increasingly presenting points from his election program and is clearly successful with it. The next general election must take place no later than the end of next year.
