Reaktion auf Koranverbrennung

In July, hundreds of protesters gathered at the Swedish embassy in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. According to eyewitnesses, many climbed over barricades, and some managed to enter the building, as shown in videos shared on social media. A few individuals also set fires.

The protesters responded to Quran burnings in Sweden. In recent months, the anti-Islam activist Salwan Momika, a refugee from Iraq, desecrated the Quran during a series of anti-Islam protests, primarily in Stockholm. This caused outrage in many Muslim countries, leading to protests in several Muslim-majority nations.

The Swedish police justified their actions by citing freedom of speech. Politicians in Muslim countries urged Sweden to find ways to prevent such Quran burnings.
