Wirtschaftsminister Habeck im Bundestag: wichtige Entlastung für die Industrie

Bundeswirtschaftsminister Robert Habeck (Grüne) supports the extension of the top compensation for electricity tax. A spokesperson for Habeck referred to the subsidy as an important tool in Berlin on Monday, thus welcoming the initiative of Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner. „To our great regret, the top compensation was not included in the budget,“ said a spokesperson to SPIEGEL. „If the Federal Ministry of Finance now sees room for maneuver, we explicitly welcome it because the top compensation provides important relief for the industry in difficult times.“
Habeck hatte den geplanten Wegfall schon immer bedauert. Gegenüber Lindner, aber auch dem Kanzler soll er sich nach Informationen des SPIEGEL für den Erhalt eingesetzt haben. Allerdings hält man im Wirtschaftsministerium weiter daran fest, besonders energieintensive Unternehmen zu entlasten. Dafür soll der Strompreis für Unternehmen, die im internationalen Wettbewerb stehen, auf sechs Cent gesenkt werden.
Enorme Zusatzbelastung

The so-called peak compensation, which refunds electricity tax to large consumers, is planned to expire at the end of 2023. Economic associations strongly criticize this. The Federal Association of Energy and Water Industries stated that the elimination of peak compensation would mean enormous financial additional burdens for nearly 9000 companies. They would have to pay additional electricity taxes totaling 1.5 billion euros annually starting from 2024.
Lindner hatte der »Welt am Sonntag« gesagt, der Bundestag könnte beraten, den Spitzenausgleich ein weiteres Jahr zu verlängern – »wenn man woanders Mittel zur Gegenfinanzierung« finde.
In der Koalition läuft seit Monaten eine Debatte über eine Entlastung von Unternehmen angesichts der im internationalen Vergleich hohen Strompreise. Verbände warnen vor einer zunehmenden Abwanderung von Produktion ins Ausland. Habeck, die Grünenfraktion und die SPD-Fraktion wollen deshalb für eine Übergangsphase den Strompreis für Industriebetriebe staatlich subventionieren – die FDP ist dagegen, Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz (SPD) lehnt eine »Dauersubvention von Strompreisen mit der Gießkanne« ab.
