The film biography is based on the memoirs of Priscilla Presley (78), „Elvis and Me,“ and presents a new image of the King of Rock ’n‘ Roll: that of a man who loves his ten years younger girlfriend but also controls and deceives her. The drama is told from Priscilla’s perspective, who met Elvis at the age of 14 in Germany and moved to Memphis with him at the age of 17. Spaeny portrays a young woman filled with love but increasingly desperate internally, until she finally frees herself.
The US-American actor Peter Sarsgaard was awarded the Bear for Best Actor. The 52-year-old plays the male lead in „Memory,“ a drama by Michel Franco. He portrays a man with dementia in the film about love and memory. During a press conference in Venice, Sarsgaard mentioned that the film touched him personally due to a close connection: his uncle, whom he was very close to, developed dementia relatively early, similar to his character in the film.
The special price goes to Poland.
The Polish director Agnieszka Holland has received the Special Jury Prize for her film „Zielona Granica“. The drama tells the story of migrants at the Polish-Belarusian border. In this black and white film, the audience follows the fate of a Syrian family who wants to flee to the EU through Belarus. Their experiences are intertwined with the stories of a young Polish border control officer and a group of Polish activists. The film is mostly set in 2021, when the situation at the Polish-Belarusian border escalated: thousands of people tried to illegally enter the EU at that time. The EU accused Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko of bringing migrants from crisis regions to the EU’s external border in an organized manner to exert pressure on the West.
In the movie, the Polish and Belarusian border control officers act brutally. Holland effectively portrays the catastrophic situation through emotional and shocking visuals.
