In BrandenburgAccording to experts, there is also a clear reason for the upswing – mainly due to the car manufacturer Tesla. Statistician Benjamin Gampfer stated that the automotive industry has greatly boosted the economy.

According to the preliminary data from the working group, the economic output decreased in nine federal states. However, in six states, the gross domestic product (GDP) adjusted for inflation increased compared to the previous year. In one state, the value of all produced goods and services remained unchanged.

However, when considering the percentage changes, the economic performance of each country must also be taken into account. In 2022, the GDP of Brandenburg was 88.8 billion euros, while that of Rheinland-Pfalz was almost twice as high at 171.7 billion euros. The strongest economy in Germany, Nordrhein-Westfalen, reached 793.8 billion euros, and the entire country reached 3.87 trillion euros.

Tesla ist neuer Wirtschaftsmotor Brandenburg

The Deputy CEO Alexander Schirp of the Business Associations Berlin-Brandenburg (UVB) also emphasized electromobility as a crucial driver of economic growth. Many suppliers have settled throughout Brandenburg and form a value chain around this new industry. „Here, a growth nucleus is emerging that will give the entire region a boost and bring new prosperity,“ said Schirp.

After only two years of construction, Tesla began production of electric cars in Grünheide, Brandenburg in 2022. Currently, approximately 250,000 cars are produced at the location each year. However, Tesla is significantly expanding its facility in Grünheide. According to the company, the goal is to have a production capacity of one million cars per year. 22,500 employees are planned for the production expansion. The new manufacturing facility is expected to be operational, at least in part, as early as next year.
