Sie blockieren die Straßen, behindern den Verkehr, um ein schnelleres Vorgehen gegen den Klimawandel zu fordern: Der Protest von Klima-Demonstranten in Berlin hat bei der Staatsanwaltschaft inzwischen zu 2860 Verfahren geführt. Das teilte ein Behördensprecher der Nachrichtenagentur dpa mit. Bei einem Großteil der Fälle geht es demnach um Aktionen der Gruppe Letzte Generation.
The spokesperson stated that the prosecution has received a total of 2458 cases so far. The remaining 402 cases are against members of the Extinction Rebellion organization. It is expected that more cases will now be brought to the judiciary as The Last Generation has announced road blockades for the upcoming days.
According to the prosecutor’s office, there are now 74 legally binding judgments against members of the protest group. In total, the Tiergarten District Court has issued 143 judgments so far, with two defendants being acquitted. Two cases resulted in a prison sentence being imposed.
In der Regel wurden die Klimaaktivisten zu Geldstrafen verurteilt, meist wegen Nötigung und Widerstands gegen Vollstreckungsbeamte. Wird gegen zunächst erlassene Strafbefehle Einspruch eingelegt, kommt es zur mündlichen Verhandlung vor dem Amtsgericht Tiergarten. Das ist seit einigen Monaten regelmäßig der Fall.
To expedite the court proceedings against the climate protesters, the prosecution has started to request accelerated procedures during the summer. In June, the Tiergarten District Court made the necessary organizational arrangements and adjusted its distribution plan.
In an open letter to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), the group wrote: „We are in the midst of a climate catastrophe. People are dying daily as a result. We are witnessing crucial elements tipping, such as the Amazon dying, the Gulf Stream drying up, and the Arctic melting.“ Addressing Scholz directly, they continued: „You are afraid to initiate the change… because you are afraid to say and do things that may initially be unpopular… We demand that you no longer shy away from your responsibility.“ A comprehensive transformation is necessary.
