Observers have been waiting for a response from the West to China’s „New Silk Road“ for a long time. Now, the European Union, the USA, and other partners have announced a similar project – a massive rail and shipping project. The participants announced at the G20 summit in New Delhi that the project aims to better connect Europe, the Middle East, and India.
„I cannot reword“
Auch US-Präsident Joe Biden sprach von einem »historischen Wirtschaftskorridor«. Verständigt haben sich darauf in einer Absichtserklärung:
-
die Vereinigten Staaten,
-
Indien,
-
Saudi-Arabien,
-
die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate
-
und die Europäische Union.
The project is intended to be financed through the EU initiative Global Gateway, which aims to invest up to 300 billion euros in the infrastructure of emerging and developing countries in the coming years. Planned projects already include initiatives for energy generation using climate-neutral hydrogen in Africa, as well as a new underwater cable connection for data transport between the EU and Latin America.
Pipelines nach Israel
Part of the newly announced project also includes the expansion of power grids and energy projects. High-speed data cables are also part of the plan. According to the information, the trade of clean energy between Asia, the Middle East, and Europe will also be strengthened with power cables and a pipeline for clean hydrogen. According to the White House, pipelines that will be laid from Israel to Europe will deliver clean hydrogen to Europe.
It is remarkable that Israel is part of the initiative. Recently, there have been reports of a possible rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
