Altersarmut: Mehr Rentner in Deutschland gehen noch arbeiten

More and more retirees in Germany are continuing to work. Currently, there are 1,123,000 employees who are older than 67 years and have therefore exceeded the regular retirement age. This information comes from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in response to parliamentary inquiries from the Left Party, as reported by the RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND).

Currently, there are 56,105 more seniors employed than at the end of last year. The majority of working retirees have marginal employment, with only about a quarter being socially insured, according to the report. The Left Party sees the high proportion of so-called 520-euro mini-jobs as an indication that many retirees have to work to make a living.

„I cannot reword“

Der Linkenfraktionschef im Bundestag, Dietmar Bartsch, hatte vergangene Woche eine außerordentliche Rentenerhöhung von zehn Prozent oder mindestens 200 Euro im Monat gefordert. Er verlangte zudem, das Rentenniveau in Deutschland müsse wieder auf „mindestens 53 Prozent“ angehoben werden – von derzeit etwa 48 Prozent.
